인공지능대학 컴퓨터공학과 김영준 교수가 1월 30일(목) 아시아그래픽스(Asiagraphics) 협회의 3대 회장으로 선출됐다. 김 교수는 앞으로 2년 간 아시아그래픽스 협회 회장으로 협회 운영의 주도적 역할을 할 예정이다.
2015년에 창립된 아시아그래픽스(AG)는 아시아 지역의 컴퓨터그래픽스(Computer Graphics)와 상호작용 기술(Interactive Technology) 연구 단체들의 소통과 협력을 위한 전문 기관이며, 전 세계의 컴퓨터그래픽스 분야 연구자들을 대상으로 하는 비영리 단체이다. 아시아그래픽스 협회의 정식 명칭은 '아시아 컴퓨터그래픽스 및 상호작용 기술 협회'이다. 본 협회는 아시아 지역 컴퓨터그래픽스 연구자들 간의 협력 플랫폼을 제공하고, 학문적 활동 조직화 및 다른 협회들과의 혜택 조정 및 교류, 최신 연구 결과의 보급과 우수한 공헌을 한 연구자들의 인정을 통해 컴퓨터그래픽스 분야의 발전을 촉진하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 아시아그래픽스 협회의 주력 국제학술대회이며 컴퓨터그래픽스 분야 대표 국제학회 중 하나인 '퍼시픽 그래픽스(Pacific Graphics)'가 2014년 본교에서 개최된 바 있다. 김 교수는 현재 본교 컴퓨터그래픽스·가상현실연구센터장, 시뮬레이션 기반 융복합 콘텐츠 연구센터장 및 과학기술정보통신부 지정 대학ICT연구센터(ITRC)장을 맡고 있다
한편 AG는 김교수와 AG전회장인 중국 칭와대 후시민 교수가 공동조직위원장으로 주도하여 2월 28일 ~ 3월 1일간 중국 칭다오에서 한중일의 젊은 연구자들간의 연구 교류 행사인 제1회 Intelligent Graphics워크숍을 개최할 예정이다. 본 행사는 중국의 시가총액1위 기업인 텐센트 후원과 AG의 주도로 진행되며, 인공지능과 결합된 컴퓨터그래픽스 분야의 가장 유망한 연구에 대해 아시아 지역의 떠오르는 젊은 연구자들을 초대하여 미래의 AI기반 컴퓨터그래픽스의 연구방향을 제시하며 아시아 지역의 젊은 연구자들간의 공동연구의 기회를 제공하리라 전망된다.

Professor Young J. Kim of the Department of Computer Engineering at the College of Artificial Intelligence was elected as the third president of the Asiagraphics Association on Thursday, January 30. He will play a leading role in managing the association for the next two years.
Founded in 2015, Asiagraphics (AG) is a specialized organization that facilitates communication and collaboration among computer graphics and interactive technology research groups across Asia, and it is a non-profit organization serving computer graphics researchers worldwide. The official name of the association is the “Asia Association for Computer Graphics and Interactive Technology.” It aims to promote the advancement of computer graphics by providing a collaborative platform for researchers in Asia, organizing academic activities, coordinating benefits and exchanges with other associations, disseminating the latest research findings, and recognizing researchers with outstanding contributions. The association’s flagship international conference, “Pacific Graphics” — one of the leading international conferences in the field of computer graphics — was held at our university in 2014. Currently, Professor Kim also serves as the director of the Computer Graphics and Virtual Reality Research Center, the Simulation-based Convergence Content Research Center, and the University ICT Research Center (ITRC) designated by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
Meanwhile, AG, under the joint leadership of Professor Kim and former AG president Professor Shi-min Hu of Tsinghua University, will host the inaugural Intelligent Graphics Workshop in Qingdao, China, from February 28 to March 1. This event will foster research exchanges among young researchers from Korea, China, and Japan. Sponsored by Tencent—China’s largest company by market capitalization—and led by AG, the workshop is expected to invite emerging young researchers from across Asia to showcase the most promising research in computer graphics integrated with artificial intelligence, thereby setting future directions for AI-based computer graphics and providing opportunities for collaborative research among the region’s young scholars.
