Professor Byeongmoon Jeong, majoring in chemistry and nanoscience, won the "Osstem Implant Biomaterials Grand Prize," the highest award of the Korean Society for Biomaterials, on September 29 (Thu) in recognition of his outstanding achievements and dedication to the development of biomaterials.

Professor Jeong has been conducting research that designs and synthesizes new medical polymer biomaterials and applies that to the biomedical field. Focusing on the specialized field of biodegradable temperature-sensitive thermogel, he studied design synthesis, transition mechanism, drug delivery system, cell culture, and medical applications of these substances, publishing more than 140 papers (16,300 citations, h-index=53) as the main author in SCI(E)-class journals such as Nature, Advanced Materials, Journal of Controlled Release, and Biomaterials. Among these substances, polypeptide-based sol-gel transition polymers, which are receiving attention as carriers of cells and biopharmaceuticals, have attracted three technology transfer contracts so far for their practical use. In particular, as the editor-in-chief of Biomaterials Research, the official journal of the Korean Society for Biomaterials, he contributed greatly to the SCIE listing of this journal and receiving a high impact factor. In addition, Professor Jeong was appointed as a Fellow of Biomaterials Science & Engineering (FBSE) at the 2020 World Biomaterials Congress and won the 2021 Hanwha Polymer Academic Award, one of the best awards of the Polymer Society of Korea.
