Division of Communication & Media held online ‘Special International Conference’ to celebrate the 60th anniversary of th

Division of Communication & Media (Division Chair: Professor Sohye Lim) held a two-day "Special International Conference” to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the division from November 26 to 27.

Under the theme <the Next 60>, in the conference, alumnae and students of the master's and doctorate course gathered together to celebrate the 60th anniversary and to discuss challenges of the next 60 years.

The event was held online following the government’s guideline of enhanced social distancing. A total of six sessions were held, including two presentation sessions for current faculty members who graduated from this department and four presentation sessions for master and doctorate graduate students.


The international conference was attended by graduates and researchers from many countries, including the United States, Australia, and Singapore.  Many scholars — Professor Hye Kyung (Kay) Kim at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Professor Sun Young Lee at University of Maryland, Professor Jiyoung Lee at the University of Alabama, Professor Min-Sun Kim at University of Hawaii, Professor Donghee Yvette Wohn at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Professor Kyujin Shim at the University of Melbourne — shared ideas about global media issues such as COVID-19 fake news as well as ethical issues of AI.

In addition, Sonia Livingstone, a professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science, attended as a special speaker and gave a lecture on "Global Kids Online."


Meanwhile, many renowned alumnae celebrated the 60th anniversary of the department through video clips — Myung-soo Jang, Chairperson of Ewha Haktang; Kyung-soon Lee, the former chairman of the Korea Media Rating Board; 

Kyung-sook Lee, the former Representative; Sung Hee Nam, the president of Daegu Health College; Soo-kyung Baek, former deputy director of Inje University Paik Hospital; Sung hee Yoo, General Secretary of National YWCA of Korea; Rep. Eunhye Kim; Yoon-hee Lee, a news presenter at KBS. Celebrities such as Sung-ryung Kim, Won Rae Kang and Baek chun Im also sent a congratulatory messages.
