Professor Ick Joong Chung of the Department of Social Welfare, won the "World Vision Chairman Award" to celebrate the 70

Professor Ick Joong Chung of the Department of Social Welfare won the “World Vision Chairman Award” at World Vision’s 70th-anniversary ceremony on October 19. World Vision selected Professor Chung, recognizing that he has devoted himself to helping vulnerable children, families and communities around the world to address poverty and inequality. 


Professor Chung has spread good influence, participating in various research projects of World Vision, the world's largest child-focused charity organization. Working with World Vision, Professor Chung has been conducting performance evaluations of "Dreaming Children" projects and conducting research on children’s dreams and goals. Since 2013, World Vision has been carrying out the "Dreaming Children" project for children from low-income families to help them have dreams and fulfill their dreams over a long time. 2,441 children have discovered and fulfilled their dreams. It is proved that children participating in the project show less depression and aggression.


In addition, Professor Chung represented his research outcome that having a dream has a positive impact on children even if they had negative experiences in their lives such as physical, emotional, sexual abuse. The research was conducted with World Vision through the " factual survey on Korean children’s dream." Professor Chung said, "I was so moved to confirm the importance of dreams and careers of children who experienced childhood crisis of poverty and abuse. I am very honored that the research brought an award for me.”


 Professor Chung, who majored in child and youth welfare, has conducted many studies on child poverty, abuse, and juvenile delinquency and has improved the quality of life for the poor through national policy projects. He also serves as an advisor at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and the National Center for the Rights of the Child. He is actively engaged in relevant projects for vulnerable children.
