Two graduate students majoring in fashion design, Kwon Eun-bin and Lee Hyun-ah, won the grand prize (Seoul Mayor's Award) at the 2024 Zero+ Solveathon Contest with their team ‘P.E.T Project’.

The contest was hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Seoul Design Foundation, and the Seoul Upcycling Plaza, and was aimed to promote a zero-waste lifestyle. Under the theme of "Zero-Waste Fashion Design," 25 teams from fashion design majors across the country competed after passing the first round of document screening.

Participants used discarded materials such as banners, awnings, clothing, and neckties provided by the Seoul Upcycling Plaza's materials bank to create their works. On Saturday, September 7, their creations were showcased at the 2024 Zero Waste Fashion Show held at a special stage in the Ttukseom Hangang Park swimming pool.

The "P.E.T Project" team from Ewha disassembled and reassembled old pairs of jeans to create personified versions of discarded plastic bottles and plastic bags, symbolizing a "new humanity." Through this project, they conveyed a warning message about the severe impact of environmental pollution and concerns for future generations. They stated, "In line with the era where the importance of sustainable design is emerging, we aim to positively influence society through design and maintain our strong belief that even small actions can lead to significant changes. As designers, we will continue to contribute to a sustainable future."
