On April 26th at the ECC Lee San Bong Hall, The Graduate School's AI Convergence major(Professor Byung Ju Choi) opened the 'NVIDIA & EWHA AIX Day' with the world-famous AI leading company, NVIDIA.
NVIDIA is a global IT company, maintaining 1st place in the independent GPU retail market share and the autonomous car area. Through a GPU that makes new computing models, such as accelerated computing, possible, it is triggering the contemporary AI revolution and leading the AI division. Ewha is the first AI Convergence graduate school to cooperate with NVIDIA. It plans to support our school's AI-related education and research with the Deep Learning Institute(DLI) of the NVIDIA AI Technology Center(NVAITC), education programs such as GPU bootcamp and hackathons, and GPU accelerated computing.
At the 'NVIDIA & EWHA AIX Day,' NVIDIA's Industry-University Collaboration program was introduced, and it proved to be a place for professors and students to communicate. The event started with NVAITC's head, Simon See's congratulatory video and AI Convergence Innovative-Talent Cultivation Center's head, professor Byung Ju Choi's welcome speech. Professor Choi said, "Ewha is striving to cultivate experienced high-quality workers by cooperating with 38 AI companies like NVIDIA. I hope today's event will be a meaningful start to the collaboration between Ewha and NVIDIA, in order to cultivate talented workers with the needed abilities for work in the industry."
Also, NVIDIA's department head, Hyun Gon Yu, shared examples of research cooperation with each domain's expert, in the GPU acceleration area and AI viewpoint. Director Sun Wook Kim shared keynotes and important issues of GTC 2023, a conference opened in March for world-class AI developers.
Next, our school's AI Convergence Major professor Won Hee Choi introduced the graduate school's AI Convergence major and the various researches going on there. With the subject of 'Becoming a NVIDIA Jetson AI Ambassador,' Hye Ryung Chu, a graduate school student in the AI Convergence major, shared her experience of completing the Jetson AI specialist track for AI educators and instructors, provided by NVIDIA's DLI. Both of the Computer Engineering major, Professor Myung Guk Yoon and professor Jae Hyung Shim each presented the results of the 'pruning method considering the GPU operation structure' research and the 'investigation of the best GPU operation for the advancement of capsule network's inference performance' research. Lastly, NVIDIA's various education programs, DLI and GPU Mentors program, were introduced.
The graduate school's AI Convergence major was made in September of 2022 with help from the Ministry of Science and ICT's project, '2022 AI Convergence Innovative-Talent Cultivation.' Our university is widely providing a foundational AI technology curriculum in order to push forward the 'provision of AI education for everyone' that eases non-majors and workers' AI entry barrier, 'cultivation of problem-solving AI convergence talent' in pending issues of medical · bio · industry, and ‘AI convergence industry-university ecosystem construction’ with 38 national and international companies including NVIDIA. Also, Ewha is working hard to train experienced graduate · doctorate talents that can converge AI into various domains.
