Ewha Womans University received a donation of KRW 1 billion for the Ewha West Campus (EWC) construction fund from Tae-Sun Seo, Director of Jinro Distillers Co. and Chairperson of J Tower (Home Management, graduating class of 1975).

Tae-Sun Seo and her daughter Jin-Yi Jang, Director of Albus Gallery, were honored at a donation ceremony held on February 20 at Aryeong-dang on campus. The event was attended by Ewha President Hyang-Sook Lee; Jhungsoo Park, Executive Vice President for Research and External Affairs; Yuri Kim, Dean of the College of Science and Industry Convergence; Jeong Ah Choi, Vice President for Student Affairs; Yun Jung Choi, Ewha Vice President for University Relations and Development; Eunyoung Park, Associate Vice President for University Relations and Development; and Hyang-jin Lee, President of the Home Management Alumnae Association, along with other internal and external guests, all of whom expressed their appreciation for the donation.

This donation will be used for the construction of EWC, which the university envisions as a hub for future-oriented convergence research and education. In the future, EWC will house the College of Science and Industry Convergence, the College of Artificial Intelligence, the College of Pharmacy, and the College of Nursing. It is particularly meaningful that the EWC will be the new home of the College of Science and Industry Convergence, which continues the tradition of Tae-Sun Seo’s home management major.

Ewha President Hyang-Sook Lee delivered welcoming remarks at the ceremony: “I’m grateful to hold this meaningful ceremony at the atmospheric Aryeong-dang. Chairperson Seo, who leads her company with such a daring spirit, will be a truly valuable role model for Ewha students.”

President Lee continued, “I will strive as president to create an excellent research and educational environment so that Ewha students can follow Chairperson Seo’s example and, at EWC, grow into women leaders who will have a positive influence on society in years to come.”

Seo responded by reflecting on her experience at the university, saying, “I am reminded of my youth, walking the Ewha campus in my twenties. At Ewha, I learned to understand people and respect life beyond my major, which has become the core foundation of my life.”

Seo also mentioned Morris Hall (the Human Ecology Building), which was completed in 1972 through the donation of missionary Harriett Palmer Morris. “It is deeply moving that one person’s dedication and spirit of giving can become a tradition at the university and nurture future generations.” She added, “I hope this donation serves as both an expression of gratitude to my alma mater and a testament to my trust in future generations. I will continue to support Ewha so that it may shine even brighter as a cradle of intellect leading our era.”
