Ewha Holds Meeting with Korean Women Leaders and Quentin Bryce, Governor General of Australia

On Tuesday, February 26th Ewha held a meeting titled ‘Ewha and Australian Embassy Invitation to Korean Women Leaders’.

This event was to held on the occasion of the visit of H.E. Quentin Bryce, Governor General of Australia, to Ewha Womans University. Together with Korean women leaders and the President of Ewha, H.E. Bryce discussed women’s participation in the economy and civil society’ at Ewha’s Archives.

 

Korean women leaders, including Dr. Jung-sook Kim (First Vice President, International Council of Women); Rep. Kyung Rim Shin (Member, National Assembly of the Republic of Korea); Rep. Jasmine Lee (Member, National Assembly of the Republic of Korea); Ms. Kyung Won Na (Chairwoman, Special Olympics World Winter Games Organizing Committee PyeongChang 2013); Ms. Jie-Ae Sohn (President & CEO, Arirang TV and Radio); and Ms. Romi Haan (CEO & Vice President, HAAN Corporation), participated in the meeting and discussed the economic and social role of women in Korea and Australia. 

Ewha’s President, Dr.jur Sun-Uk Kim  said, “The Governor General’s commitment to socially and economically marginalized people is in line with Ewha’s motto, ‘non nobis solum’”. She also said, “I hope that this meeting marks the start of a positive future relationship between Australia and Ewha, which was established 127 years ago for disadvantaged women and has now become a ‘Global Hub for Women’s Education.’    

H.E. Quentin Bryce, Governor General of Australia, said, “I am so glad to visit Ewha, which educated countless women leaders,” noting “it was a such a valuable opportunity to talk openly about women’s roles with Korean women leaders.”

Ewha held ‘Meet Australia at Ewha’, a celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in May 2011. Additionally, Ewha is currently collaborating on science research exchange with 8 prestigious universities in Australia, including the University of New South Wales and the University of Queensland, through a partnership titled ‘Australia Go8-Korea K8’. Ewha Professor  Jin Ho Choi, Executive Vice President for External Affairs, visited the University of Queensland on March 4th to sign an MOU related to Nanotechnology and discuss further cooperation.
