Ewha’s Project Team for Leading University for International Cooperation (Head: Professor Mi-hye Kim) visited Phnom Penh, Cambodia from January 25 (Friday) to January 31 (Thursday). The group engaged in lectures and various programs, including a workshop for NGO cooperation for students of Royal University of Phnom Penh.

‘A project supporting growth of universities leading global cooperation’, run by Korea’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST), enhances Korea’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) and bolsters university capacity in developing countries by sharing information about the systems, resources, and experiences of Korean universities with the countries. Ewha, having led numerous initiatives in international cooperation, was selected as a leading university in global cooperation in April 2012. Ewha’s Project Team for Leading University for International Cooperation, composed of the departments of Social Science, International Studies, Korean Studies, and Environmental Science & Engineering, is working on expanding ODA at higher basic education level in Cambodia. It is also running a project to establish a Cambodia Development Institution.

During the trip, Ewha’s Project Team for Leading University for International Cooperation visited the president’s board at RUPP and sought to activate exchanges between two universities. It also initiated the first short-term lecturing program sponsored by RUPP-EWHA Cambodia Development Institution, which will explore the economic development of Korea to RUPP students and offer opportunities to research economic development models adaptable to Cambodia. Moreover, the group ran a NGO cooperation workshop around the topic of ‘future and social welfare of Cambodia’, and launched ‘the first RUPP-EWHA speech contest in Korean’ to encourage and support RUPP students in the department of the Korean language.

Ewha’s Project Team for Leading University for International Cooperation also visited the ‘Ewha Srang Elementary School’ and observed classes in the department of Social Welfare and department of Environmental Science & Engineering at RUPP. Professors from the department of Social Welfare awarded the Ewha Scholarship, collected by professors of the department of Social Welfare, to five graduate students.
