-President Sun-Uk Kim Delivers Keynote Speech at International Symposium at King Saud University-

President Kim visited Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from January 11th to January 18th, where she met the presidents of three universities, including the president of King Saud University (KSU), Saudi Arabia’s top ranked university. The visits gave President Kim the opportunity to communicate Ewha’s status as the ‘Global Hub for Women’s Education’ and discuss cooperation between Ewha and the host universities.

President Kim was invited as a keynote speaker to an international symposium at KSU exploring the theme ‘Saudi Women in Higher Education: From Growth to Competitiveness’. She is the first president of Ewha to visit the Arab region.

President Kim said that women’s education is highly important to create societies with gender equality, using as an example the abolition of the ‘Hoju’ system in Korea. She also highlighted the need for women leaders in all fields to work to improve current systems and revise laws by raising women’s issues and staging active movements.

President Kim reflects, “Attending this symposium, I could see the willingness of Saudi Arabia to provide women with the knowledge and technical education necessary today.” She said “I believe that ‘we’ will make changes in the lives of women around the world, just as Ewha has constantly been a ‘change in the world’ over the last 127 years.”

On this trip, President Kim visited the main universities in Saudi Arabia to meet with presidents, vice presidents, and administrators and discuss collaboration in women’s education and fostering global talent.
