Ewha Participated the US-Korea Conference on Science, Technology, & Entrepreneurship
President Lee Bae-Yong Gives a Keynote Speech at 2009 UKC

Ewha participated in the 'UKC, the US-Korea Conference on Science, Technology, & Entrepreneurship' from July 16 to 19. UKC is an annual conference of KSEA, the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association where scientists and engineers gather and exchange research results and strengthen networks in order to seek for better ways to cooperate.

Ewha participated as a sponsor university for the conference along with KAIST, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and POSTECH, Pohang University of Science and Technology. President Lee Bae-Yong was invited to give a keynote speech for the conference and she addressed the speech on 'Global Sustainability and the Role of Women'.



In the speech, Lee said, "Fostering creative talents has become an important mission of the knowledge-based society. Women talents can play the role of the new source of the national competency in the science and engineering field. We should try to enhance the role and the status of women scientists and engineers in order to foster more women talents in the field."

The conference was held under the theme of ‘Creative Minds for Global Sustainability.’ During the Conference, about 30 symposiums and forums were held with various sub-topics of aviation science technology, renewable energy, nano science technology, life science technology, applied pure mathematics, and communication network technology under five main topics of energy, natural resources, life, basic industries, and basic science.

1200 Eminent scholars of Korea and the U.S. including Nobel laureates attended and presented 600 competitive research papaers of international level in the field of science, engineering, and technology. In addition to symposiums, ‘Young Generation Forum’ and 'Women in Science Forum' was held during the conference. More than 100 U.S. professors and students participated in the Forum and strengthened networks with Korean scientists.
