President Lee Bae Yong, Inaugurated as the 15th Chairman of the Korean Council for University Education(KCUE)

Lee Bae Yong, President of Ewha Womans University, was inaugurated as the 15th Chairman of the Korean Council for University Education(KCUE), a body that decides key university policies, on Tuesday, June 30th at the central lounge of KCUE headquarters.

Presidents from KCUE member universities and officials from the government and other relevant organizations attended the inauguration ceremony.

Lee said in the inaugural speech, "I feel a heavy sense of responsibility as the council head in this transition period of university education. Together with the insight and wisdom of member university presidents, we will do our best to enhance public credibility of KCUE and position it as the organization that will lead the development of Korea's higher education."

She also announced three key strategies for strengthening 'self-regulation‘ and 'responsibility’ of universities, which are ▶increasing cooperation among universities, the government, and the business, allowing universities to concentrate on its intrinsic function ▶ ensuring stable financial foundation for universities to enhance their competitiveness ▶ hosting ‘University President's Forum’ to construct more global partnerships of higher education in Korea.

President Lee, who is the first woman chairman of KCUE, had served as the vice-chairman andcontributed in advancing university admission system as the chairman of University Admissions Deliberation Committee of KCUE in 2008.
