Ewha-HCAP Conference 2009 Held

The Ewha-HCAP(Harvard College in Asia Program) Conference 2009 is held at Ewha from March 21 to 28.

The conference was provided as a part of HCAP(Harvard College in Asia Program) which is an exchange program between Harvard and selected prestigious universities in Asia. The program consists of two conferences; one held at Harvard and the other held at each Asia partner universities. Ewha is the first and the only partner university selected from Korea since last year.

The conference in Korea was organized by 29 Ewha undergraduate students and 15 Harvard delegate students. The program at Ewha aims at 'Uniting the World through Education'. The main subject of the conference held in Korea is 'Creating the Ideal Educational System'. On March 24th, conference participants held a debate session under three subjects, 'Centralized Education vs. Localized Education', 'Payment Based on Student's Academic Performance', and 'English as a Mandatory Curriculum' and brought about interesting ideas and conclusions.

Lee Na-eun(Administration 05), the Ewha participant said, "The conference held at Ewha was evaluated to be the most successful conference among other universities last year. This year we have prepared various cultural experiences to show the capacity of Ewha and Korea in addition to the lectures and debate that will show Ewha's world-class academic competence."

Fan Zhou(Mathematics, 3), the Harvard participant said, "HCAP Conference is not a mere student exchange program. It is a conference where future leaders meet and have a chance to understand diverse culture and study for the better future. Due to the increased status of Korea in the world, there are growing interests in the politics, society, and the culture of Korea. I hope this conference is a chance for me to see the past and the future of Korea."

Mejia Erika(Biochemistry, 4) from Harvard said, “My friend, who was a participant from last year recommended Ewha as the best conference program. As myself being a graduate of women's high school, I am interested in women's education. I thought Ewha, the largest women's university is where I will be able to learn how it foster women leaders."

HCAP started 5 years ago with the intention of raising Harvard leaders in Asia-Pacific area by bringing out greater interest and enhancing understanding of Asia. HCAP has been the most popular and the largest Asia exchange program in Harvard because it provides participants opportunities to extend their network on an international level through exchanges with students from prestigious universities in Asia as well as many cultural experiences.

The five other selected universities of HCAP are Tokyo University from Japan, Hong Kong University from China, Singapore National University from Singapore, American University in Dubai from United Arab Emirates, and St. Xaviar College from India.
