Ewha Hosts 2008 World University President Forum Successfully

As the world's largest women's university raising leaders of the next generation, Ewha successfully hosted '2008 World University President Forum' on 24th of October at LG Convention Hall at Ewha International Building. Women presidents from 14 universities of 6 countries participated and discussed under the subject of 'Future of Women's University' and 'Mobility'.



In the 'History and the Role of Women's University' session, speeches were given by Ewha President Lee Bae Yong, President Mitiko of Ochanomizu University from Japan, President Wendy Libby and chief director Helen Washburn of Stephens College from United States, and President Kim Young Gil from HanDong University.

In the next session of which the theme was on 'Mobility', a discussion on 'exchange of students and academia among universities' took place. President Rona Edmunson from Wilson College from United States and president Beverly Daniel Tatum from Spelman University gave speeches on specific actions.

Lastly, in the 'Discussion with the Next Generation' session, 70 Ewha students and 14 university presidents had table discussions on 7 topics including 'enhancing awareness among youth about environment preservation'. The university presidents who are leaders in education and Ewha students who are the potential future leaders of next generation had enthusiastic discussions during the session.

President Lee said, "As president of Ewha, I have focused on the globalization of Ewha and made relationships with the university presidents all over the world. Ewha hosting World President Forum is one of the results of global campus network throughout 12 countries in Europe, Asia, and United States." Lee also announced that this would be an opportunity to strengthen partnerships among universities and try to solve issues the universities confront nowadays.

Ewha signed additional partnerships with Spelman College, Stephens College(MO), St Mary's College, NorthWest University from Republic of South Africa, and Zhejiang University from China on joint research and exchange programs.
