Ewha, Wellesley discuss leadership

Ewha Womans University and Wellesley College plan to host a conference on women's global leadership today at the Sheraton Walkerhill Hotel and W Hotel in Seoul.

The conference is to take place prior to the opening of the three-day World Women's Forum at the same locations.

With the participation of women CEOs and corporate executives, the "Ewha-Wellesley Global Leadership Conference" will discuss systematic and substantial ways to foster essential leadership skills.

"Wellesley and Ewha are very much alike in that their mission is to raise women leaders," Ellen Widmer, professor of East Asian studies at Wellesley, told reporters yesterday at Ewha.

"We are looking forward to expanding our relationship into a full partnership through this conference."

Along with Widmer, Jennifer Thomas-Starck, director of international studies, and Laura Bey, associate registrar at Wellesley, spoke about how the two schools should bolster ties.

Starting with a keynote speech by Chun Shin-ae, former associate deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor, the Ewha-Wellesley conference will consist of seminars on the management of negotiations and conflicts as well as global leadership for the 21st century. A workshop by the Center for Creative Leadership will also take place.
