Overview
Ewha Womans University College of Education established itself as a two-year Early Childhood Education program in 1915 and from there developed into a four-year college in 1951. It is the only comprehensive teachers’ education institute in Korea that offers majors for kindergarten, elementary, secondary and special education. Since its inception, The College of Education has been delivering creative local and global leaders who are motivated to work for the growth and benefit of society. More than 3,500 alumni of the college are currently in roles of educational leadership both nationwide and internationally.
Currently, the College of Education boasts twelve academic departments accommodating nineteen academic major programs, four research centers, four affiliated schools, and teacher training centers for both pre-service and in-service teachers. Approximately 26,000 undergraduate students and about 2,700 postgraduate students have graduated from The College of Education. For the academic year 2011-2012, about 2,500 undergraduate students and about 550 postgraduate students are registered in academic programs.

The Aim of Education
The College of Education, pursuant to Ewha’s educational philosophy, which is based on Christian principles, strives to educate qualified teachers at all teaching levels: early childhood education, elementary, and secondary school education. The college also seeks to cultivate educators who will become leaders in educational fields and academic research.
To fulfill these objectives, the college has set the following specific goals:
- Cultivate well-rounded personalities, a sense of duty for teaching, and strong work ethic as is required of teachers.
- Enable students to have critical perspectives on the changes and paradigms of education.
- Enhance expertise in related academic and educational fields and the ability to conduct independent research and further investigation.
- Train students to develop creative and critical thinking to find and utilize relevant information in order to lead global educational trends.
