Professor Jihoon Kim, awarded the IEEE-IEIE ‘Young Science Technician Award’

Leading the development of design for signal processing VLSI and domain customization low-electricity SoC
Professor Jihoon Kim of the Electronic and Electrical Engineering major has been chosen as the winner of the ‘Young Science Technician Award,’ co-supervised by the IEEE and IEIE and sponsered by Haedong Science Foundation.
The ‘Young Science Technician Award’ is an international award in the ICT field. A scientist · technician under the age of 40 who has highly contributed to the development of technology and studies, is chosen every year through strict evaluation and awarded. The IEIE revealed that for this year’s award, they focused on technical practicality, level of contribution to society and the environment, creativity, etc in evaluation.
Professor Kim has received his bachelor’s degree and doctorate at KAIST and has been appointed as professor for Ewha’s Electronic and Electrical Engineering major in 2018. He has published more than 50 excellent theses in global journals and conferences while carrying out creative research on embedded systems, domain customization processors, and digital SoC(System-on-Chip) design. Through technology transfer, he has led the progress of the design of signal processing VLSI(Very Large Scale Integration) and domain customization low-electricity SoC. Because of this, he has highly contributed to the advancement of the semiconductor industry.
Professor Kim is leading the development of semiconductor studies and industry by participating in various academic activities, such as managing conferences and giving lectures. He is a technical program committee member of the International Solid-State Circuits Conference(IEEE ISSCC) and Asian Solid-State Circuits Conference(IEEE A-SSCC), both prestigious conferences in the semiconductor circuit area. Also, he is a part of the steering committee of the IC Design Education Center(IDEC).
In his acceptance speech, professor Kim said, “In the light of the international importance of semiconductors increasing, I will work harder at research and education in order to raise our country’s national competence.”
