On July 25, Ewha University-Industry Collaboration Foundation (EUICF, President: Hyang-Sook Lee) held an MOU signing ceremony with exclusive patent offices in the main conference room of the Main Hall. The ceremony was attended by EUICF president Hyang-Sook Lee, vice president Sang-Beom Jun, the head and executives of the technology commercialization team, and 10 patent attorneys from 10 patent offices in each technology field (5 from chemical/bio fields, 5 from electrical electronics/medical devices/convergence fields). Ewha Womans University has been operating an exclusive patent office system since 2000, and the agreement ceremony was held this year after six years since 2016.

Patents, as a result of research, are becoming increasingly important in the entire cycle of national and private R&D. Over the past three years, Ewha Womans University has conducted more than 300 domestic and foreign patent applications annually, securing its competitiveness as Ewha’s technology transfer revenue has been rising over the years. This exclusive MoU agreement with patent offices was made to improve patent quality through strategic customized consulting, discover excellent technologies that can be commercialized, and strengthen technology commercialization capabilities with efficient and standardized patent management.

President Hyang-Sook Lee said at the signing ceremony, “This ceremony is very meaningful since the importance of technology rights is growing,” adding, “We hope that this agreement will be the first step to create a new synergy between Ewha and patent offices.” Patent offices mentioned specialized advantages of each office and spared no effort to make various suggestions for Ewha to successfully use their technology for their right and business.

EUICF has been supporting patent applications through one-on-one consultations with researchers, intellectual property education, and Lab consulting. After the application, EUICF supports various technology commercialization strategies including application registration, technology marketing, technology transfer, and so on. Under the agreement, each patent office will cooperate with EUICF to support the process more professionally and efficiently.
