Alumna Minhae Kwon has been recently promoted as an associate professor with tenure at the Soongsil University School of Electronic Engineering. Kwon earned her B.A. (‘11), M.A. (‘13, advised by Professor Hyounggon Park), and Ph.D.(‘17, advised by Professor Hyounggon Park) in Ewha Electronic Engineering Department. She then got her post-doctoral fellowship at the Electrical and Computer Engineering of Rice University and the Center for Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence at Baylor College of Medicine. She has been working at Soongsil University’s School of Electronic Engineering IT Convergence Major as an associate professor since March 2020. During her studies in Ewha, Kwon carried on research regarding decision-making process based on reinforcement learning, finally being recognized for its excellence to receive Global Ph.D. Fellowship, the Minister of Science and ICT’s Prize, Future Talent Award, Qualcomm Innovation Award, The Google Anita Borg Scholarship and more. During her post-doctoral fellowship period, Kwon conducted neuro-scientific studies based on decision-making process of animal brains, and her current study explores AI technology studies based on brain science and computational neuroscience.

Meanwhile, alumna Hayoung Byun began her tenure-track at Myungji University’s College of Electronic Engineering as an associate professor. Byun graduated Ewha’s Department of Electronic Engineering in 2014 with a summa cumme laude at the age of 20. It was the youngest of all(class of 2014). Furthermore, she also earned her Ph.D. as the youngest(class of 2020, Advisor Professor Hyesook Lee) after being rewarded with the Excellent Dissertation Award through her unified course of master’s and doctor’s. During her doctoral studies, she was selected for Korean government’s International Joint Research, a global project for nurturing core talented students supported by Institute for Information & Communication Technology Planning & Evaluation(IITP). The Research project allowed her to complete in-depth AI learning courses at Carnegie Mellon University, which has the world’s best graduate program in Artificial Intelligence. She also conducted excellent research such as developing various algorithms and structures in the field of communication networks, convergence studies extended to deep learning and more.

Kwon and Byun are both passionate lecturers and great scholars, and are expected to grow into an excellent Engineering researcher who may contribute to the development of Science-Technology and foster science students in future based on their meaningful and practical research.
