Professor Seon Sook Noh of the Department of Mathematics Education received the Education Award from the Korean Mathemat

Professor Seon Sook Noh of the Department of Mathematics Education in the College of Education won the “Education Award” at the “2020 Korean Mathematical Society Conference”. The regular academic conference and awards ceremony of the Korean Mathematical Society (Chairman Jong-hae Geum) was held online on July 3 (Fri.) to prevent the spread of Covid-19.


The Education Aaward of the Korean Mathematical Society is awarded to a Korean citizen who has contributed greatly to the training of human resources through many years of education or writing activities related to mathematics. Professor Noh received the Education Award in recognition of her contribution to producing approximately 100 experts in mathematics education, including 9 doctoral degrees for the past 25 years. 


Professor Noh has published papers in leading domestic and international journals in relation to the theory of Commutative algebra, which is her major field, and has been active in the field of mathematics education, publishing papers as well as a number of books. In addition, she served as a member of the Science and Mathematics Item Review committee of TIMSS supervised by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) and a founding member of the Committee for Women in Mathematics (CWM), an affiliated organization of the International Mathematics Union (IMU). She has also contributed to the establishment of an international women's mathematics network and a systematic support scheme to assist female mathematicians around the world. In 2019, she received “Medal of Science and Technology” on the 52nd Science Day.
