Opening Remarks at the Ewha Medi-Healthcare Cluster R&BD FAIR and the 10th MediTech Forum
On Thursday, November 6, the Ewha Institute of Medical Science (Director Lee Hyangwoon) of Ewha Womans University Medical Center successfully held the Medi-Healthcare Cluster R&BD FAIR at the Convention Center on Basement Level 2 of Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital. The event brought together more than 400 researchers from the fields of medicine, biotechnology, and engineering, as well as professionals from the biohealth industry.
This year’s event was particularly meaningful as the Ewha MediTech Forum, first launched in 2018, celebrated its 10th anniversary. The forum gained further significance with the timely theme “Organoid to Digital Twin: Personalized Clinical Revolution Through Human-Centered AI.”

In her opening remarks, Lee Hyangwoon, Director of the Ewha Institute of Medical Science and Deputy Vice President for Medical-Academic Cooperation, reflected that “the journey of the Ewha MediTech Forum reaching its 10th year represents the very growth of Ewha toward becoming a research-centered hospital.” Dean Kang Deokhee of the College of Medicine encouraged the participants by stating, “Based on Ewha’s strength in interdisciplinary convergence and the power of women’s leadership, now is the time to leap forward as a human-centered bio-AI convergence platform that will lead the future of medicine.”
The Ewha MediTech Forum began with a keynote lecture by KAIST Professor Yeo Hyeondeok titled “The Competition Between Humans and AI – Intelligence and Superintelligence,” followed by discussions in which researchers from Ewha Womans University Medical Center, the College of Medicine, the College of Artificial Intelligence, and KAIST shared the latest insights. Ewha Womans University Medical Center has hosted the Ewha MediTech Forum annually since 2018 to promote multidisciplinary collaborative research, marking this year as its 10th iteration. The forum was recognized as a meaningful gathering where convergence researchers from medicine, life science, and engineering explored the future of AI-based personalized medicine.
In particular, this R&BD FAIR was designed not only as a series of presentations but as a platform for collaboration among industry, academia, research, and medical institutions, fostering a comprehensive network that brought together the medical field, research entities, and industry. Thirty-eight organizations—including national project groups operated by Ewha Womans University Medical Center and promising bio startups—set up promotional booths, facilitating active interaction between healthcare professionals and industry experts.

I hope this event becomes an important starting point for Ewha Medical Center to take a significant leap forward as a research-centered hospital.”
President Lee Hyangsook said, “This event was more than a venue for sharing research outcomes; it was a meaningful opportunity to witness universities, research institutions, hospitals, and industries come together to build and advance the Medi-Healthcare Cluster. I hope that through the collaborative network led by Ewha, innovative technologies and research achievements will seamlessly translate into real-world industry and clinical practice.”

Additionally, the 1:1 partnering program, involving experts across twelve fields, facilitated lively discussions to match the technological needs of companies with relevant research capabilities.
A representative from one of the exhibiting companies commented, “It was impressive to see such a diverse range of companies in the bio and healthcare sectors exhibiting within a hospital setting, providing distinctive displays and information. It was extremely beneficial to receive direct feedback from medical professionals working on the front lines.” Meanwhile, an employee from Ewha Womans University Medical Center who tried one of the health management devices showcased at a corporate booth shared, “Rather than feeling mechanical, the device offered a very smart experience that helped me understand my own body more directly.”
