The Department of Physics of Ewha Womans University hosted the <3rd Semiconductor Physics Summer School>and the international conference <INPEC 2025>from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3.

The Semiconductor Physics Summer School, by the Semiconductor Physics Division of the Korean Physical Society. It is an educational event for graduate and undergraduate students. This year’s theme,“The AI Revolution and Next-Generation Nano-Semiconductor Technologies,”featured in-depth lectures from 10 invited experts across industry, academics, and research institutes, offering insights into the latest trends and future directions of semiconductor technologies. Professor DongWook Kim (Department of Physics), who also is Vice Chairman of the Semiconductor Physics Division, led the planning and management of the Summer School, providing a meaningful learning opportunity for the next generation of scholars.

INPEC (International Nanophotonics and Nanoenergy Conference)is a leading international academic conference that brings researchers together in the field of nanomaterials and nanodevices for optical and energy applications. Alternating between Korea and China, the conference celebrates its 10th edition this year. Since its inception in 2011, Ewha's Department of Physics has been a key institution in it. This year marked the third time Ewha has successfully hosted the conference, following previous hosts in 2014 and 2018.

This year's conference recorded the highest attendance to date, with a total of247 participants, including101 general attendees(30 international, 71 domestic) and147 studentsfromfive countries—Korea, China, the United States, Australia, and Japan. Professor William Cho (Department of Physics, Vice President for Research) served as Honorary Chair, Professor DongWook Kim as Conference Chair, and Professor KwangDong Noh (Department of Physics) as Program Chair. The conference was co-chaired by Professor Shutian Liu (Harbin Institute of Technology, Lifetime Fellow of the Chinese Physical Society) and President Yucheng Wu (Hefei University of Technology).

The academic program included4 tutorials,5 keynote lectures,42 invited talks, and44 poster presentations, delivering a rich and high-level academic experience. Ewha’s presence was particularly notable, with a tutorial by Professor MyungHwa Kim (Department of Chemistry and Nanoscience), and invited talks by Professors KwangDong Noh (Physics) and ByungHoon Lee (Chemical and Molecular Engineering), showcasing the university’s outstanding research capabilities to an international audience.

The next INPEC conference is scheduled to be held in2027 at Hefei University of Technologyin China. Through the successful hosting of this event, Ewha Womans University has once again proved its status as an international research institute. The Department of Physics plans to continue strengthening its global academic exchanges and research collaborations to elevate its research competitiveness.
