Department of International Office Administration hosts academic and cultural exchange events with IULM University, Mila N

In celebration of the ‘2025 South Korea-Italy Year of mutual cultural exchange’

Reinforcement of global cooperation through the exchanges between the two universities


On March 6th (THU), the Department of International Office Administration hosted the Seoul-Milan University Students Cultural Exchange & Networking Event at 10 a.m. in room 101 of the Ewha-Shinsaegae Building with the ILUM University – Milan. This event was planned as part of the academic and cultural exchange initiative and aimed to promote academic exchange and cultural communication between the two schools.

A Meaningful Encounter Connecting Culture and Academic Discipline. 

The theme of the event was ‘Bridging Cultures, Inspiring Futures’ began with a welcome speech from the chair of the Department of International Office Administration, Choi Yung-Joon. Professor Choi welcomed the Italian professors and students on their first trip to South Korea and expressed excitement on the exchange between Ewha Womans University and IULM.  

Following the welcome speech, Michela Linda Magrì, the principal of the Italian Institution of Culture in Seoul, also gave a congratulatory speech. Principal Magrì emphasized the importance of exchange between South Korea and Italy and high cultural assets and promised support for the cooperation between the two countries. 

A special session by students Lee Su-Eun and Kim Min-Sol, members of the ICU, which is the promotional club of the Department of International Office Administration and explained the curriculum and main activities of the department. This enabled the faculty members and students of the ILUM University to gain a deeper understanding of Ewha’s academic strengths and the international exchange program. 

The event took progress under the host of Paik Ji-Yeon, a professor of the Department of International Office Administration and helped participants naturally interact through a smooth flow of the program. 

One of the main programs of the event was a special lecture given by emeritus professor, Hwang Hye-Jin. Professor Hwang delivered the value of leading a life by helping and cooperating with others under the theme of “White Future Inspiration via Intercultural Exchange.” Her personal life story highlighting diverse cultural experience in Europe, Asia and even the middle east overgoing her career change as a linguist to an international meeting planner inspired a lot of the participants. Towards the end of the lecture, she shared the story of Yang Jae-Lim, who is a visually impaired alpine skier and a graduate student of Ewha and her role at the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympics. After the lecture, a session for participants to freely share and exchange their opinions was prepared. 

Following the lecture, Carmela Buonomo, the attaché of the embassy of Italy gave an introduction about studying abroad opportunities to Italy and various supports and benefits following this to Ewha Department of International Office Administration students. 

For the event, including Professor Giulia Tonucci from the Department of Management and Communication for Beauty and Wellness from the IULM University, Milan, several faculty members and postgraduate students visited Ewha campus. Many officials including principal Michela Linda Magrì of the Italian Cultural Institution in Seoul, vice principal Erika Sfascia, and attaché of the embassy of Italy Carmela Buonomo, and faculty members and students of Ewha who hosted the event were attendees. 


Future Collaborations and MOU Discussions. 

This event included discussions of possibilities of international exchange between the Department of International Office Administration and the Department of Management & Communication for Beauty and Wellness and a MOU agreement. 

The Italian representatives and students at the event explored the school’s history and culture at the campus after the event ended, and students were able to understand each other’s cultures.
