The Life Science Classroom project, led by the Department of environmental engineering at Ewha, received the highest rating in the 2024 annual evaluation organized by the Korea Foundation for Science and Creativity (KOFAC).
This Life Science Classroom project (Director: Professor Cho Kyung-suk) is a customized science education project for all age groups, including children, students, adults, senior citizens, and people with disabilities. Since the pilot program launched in 2003, it has been continuously operated by Ewha for over 20 years, cementing its status as one of Korea’s flagship science culture programs.
This year’s evaluation assessed the project’s process and achievements in 2024, and Ewha’s program once again validated its excellence by receiving the highest rank.
In 2023, Ewha’s Life Science Classroom provided over 2,600 sessions across 61 locations in 15 cities, primarily in Seoul, reaching approximately 5,900 participants from diverse backgrounds. The program was recognized for its systematic curriculum development and effective use of university resources and infrastructure, including environmental awareness programs, specialized family-oriented programs, material development in English, Chinese, and Vietnamese.
This program is funded by the Science and Technology Promotion Fund and Lottery Fund, and is supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and KOFAC. It contributes to advancing science and technology of Korea while also enhancing welfare for low-income and underprivileged communities.
Professor Cho Kyung-suk, the project director, stated, “Ewha’s Life Science Classroom was able to receive the ‘outstanding’ rating thanks to the unreserved support and efforts from our researchers and teachers, KOFAC, local governments, and university officials. We will continue to develop and provide diverse programs to further promote science culture in the Seoul metropolitan area.”
