Ewha’s research team was selected by the KOICA to conduct two studies: ‘Advancing Korea’s Humanitarian Aid’ and ‘Improving the Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation of Humanitarian and Fragile-State Support Projects’. These studies aim to establish strategies for Korea to provide effective humanitarian aid amid evolving crises, thereby solidifying its role as a donor in the international community.

Professor Oh Jin-hwan’s team will conduct the ‘Advancing Korea’s Humanitarian Aid’ study (total funding: 287 million won). The team will analyze the international legal frameworks, core principles, major agreements, and humanitarian governance standards guiding humanitarian aid, while examining case studies from major donor nations (U.S., Sweden, the Netherlands, Japan). The team will propose a comprehensive plan to enhance Korea’s approach to humanitarian aid, covering the full process from legal and institutional reforms to policy and strategy improvement, and partnership and outcome management. Special emphasis will be placed on integrating and applying key global agreements, such as the Grand Bargain and the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) Nexus.

The team consists of professors with expertise in legal frameworks, policy strategies, and implementation, along with field professionals in humanitarian aid, ensuring a multidisciplinary and thorough approach that is expected to yield practical results. Additionally, the project aims to expand the network of humanitarian aid researchers and practitioners, and is expected to foster a collaborative environment and advanced ecosystem of humanitarian research.
