Park Min-seo (entered Ewha in 2022), Lee Soo-young (entered Ewha in 2021), majoring in Political Science and International Relations, won the Grand Prize (Minister of Foreign Affairs Award) at the 29th Korea Model United Nations (KMUN).

Sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and hosted by the UN Association of the Republic of Korea, the KMUN Conference was first held in 1995 to provide students with opportunities to experience the UN’s decision-making process and to develop negotiation and presentation skills. The 29th KMUN took place from July 2nd (Tue) to 5th (Fri) at Gachon University.

The conference mimicked the structure of a real UN General Assembly, with 300 participants from 30 universities acting as diplomats representing different countries. During KMUN, they discussed major pending global issues such as climate change and international security (Committee 1), international cooperation in responding to global health crises (Committee 2), and the role of the UN in addressing challenges and threats in cyberspace (Committee 3).

Park Min-seo and Lee Soo-young won the Grand Prize by representing the Republic of Mali (Committee 3), pointing out the limitations of minilateralism and areas for improvement, and argued the expansion of developing countries’ digital accessibility in cybersecurity. They emphasized that, with the current cybersecurity consultative bodies dissolving in 2025, a new single state-centered consultative body should be established. They also called for the necessity of a platform where multiple multilateral frameworks can co-exist.

Park expressed her gratitude, saying, "I am thankful to Professor Min Byoung-won for his guidance, which helped us get such great results." Lee shared her feelings, saying, "Teamwork was crucial and I am grateful to my teammate for creating such a strong synergy.”
