Professor Hyun Ju Chong, from Department of Music Therapy, Graduate School was invited to presented lectures on the therapeutic principles and practices of music in relation to modern wellness, as well as the future potential of music therapy as an interdisciplinary field, at an academic forum series held over a week in June, 2004 at three universities in China. The academic forum series was hosted by Fujian Medical University School of Health, the Department of Psychology at the College of Humanities, Fuzhou University, and the Music Cognition and Brain Research Center at the School of Art and Design, Yanshan University.
During the forum, Professor Chong led in-depth discussions on the diverse applications and future possibilities of music therapy, emphasizing how its potential to enhance community health, and addressing both theoretical and practical aspects of various techniques.
Following this academic forum, Fujian Medical University and its affiliated Hongai Hospital received a total of 2,000,000 RMB (approximately 370 million KRW) in funding for a music therapy project in July. Professor Chong will serve as an advisor for this project, sharing music therapy protocols essential for psychological treatment and neurorehabilitation in medical settings and planning training sessions for related professionals.
This visit has served as a significant opportunity to strengthen academic cooperation and exchange between Korea and China, expanding the international network of Department of Music Therapy at Ewha Womans University. Moving forward, the department plans to actively recruit outstanding international students and engage in joint academic research activities.
