Park So-yeon, a Ph.D candidate in the Department of Computer Science (Supervisor: Professor Bahn Hyo-kyung), received the Best Paper Award at the IEEE International Conference on Advances in Electrical Engineering and Computer Applications (AEECA 2024), held from August 16th to 18th in Dalian, China. Her paper will be published in an SCI journal and she received a prize of 1,000 Chinese yuan.

The IEEE International Conference on Advances in Electrical Engineering and Computer Applications (AEECA) is a prestigious international conference where researchers and scholars share global research achievements in electrical engineering and computer applications. The conference is organized by the IEEE Computer Society. AEECA is serving as a significant platform where participants share the latest technological advancements, innovative research findings, and practical applications every year. The conference leads the latest research trends in electrical and computer engineering, covering not only academic achievements but also research with high industrial applicability. The paper acceptance rate is below 30%, meaning that only high-quality research is selected after a rigorous review process. Through this reviewing process, AEECA gained recognition as a conference with high professional and academic contributions.

Park’s paper, titled “WANE: Workload Adaptive Neuro-genetic Engine for Container Usage Prediction”, addresses the challenge of accurately predicting runtime resource demand for applications in container-based cloud environments, a topic recently gaining attention. Through the cloud resource prediction engine, she combined genetic algorithms with Bayesian neural networks to tackle this issue. Her research, in particular, identified that the prediction methods for CPU and memory demands differ, introducing a tailored approach that significantly improves prediction accuracy compared to existing techniques. Moreover, her approach gained recognition for minimizing the risk of underprediction that can cause delays in online tasks.
