국제개발협력연구원, 코트디부아르 공무원 초청 ‘보건정책 역량강화’ 연수 개최

The Institute for Development and Human Security(IDHS) is hosting a 13-day training program from June 30 (Sunday) to July 12 (Friday) aimed at enhancing the capacity of Ivorian Ministry of Health officials in health policy planning and evaluation.

With 15 participants of current officials from Côte d'Ivoire's Ministry of Health, this program is supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and held in Korea. The program, organized by the IDHS (Director Byun In-soo), focuses on in-person lectures, covering topics such as the history and development of Korea's healthcare system, pandemic response strategies, and KOICA's health sector projects. The program also includes visits to key institutions such as the National Medical Center, the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency. Additionally, workshops will be conducted to help develop actionable policy plans that can significantly contribute to strengthening health policy planning and evaluation capabilities in Côte d'Ivoire.

Professor Jung Jae-hyun from the Graduate School of International Studies, who is responsible for this training program, stated, “Following last year's on-site training in Abidjan, the capital of Côte d'Ivoire, this year’s program is being conducted in Korea. We hope that through this training, Ivorian Ministry of Health officials thoroughly learn about Korea’s healthcare system and apply this experience to formulate practical health policies in their country.” The program is coordinated by Dr. Bang Yu-rim, a postdoctoral researcher at the IDHS.

Since its establishment in 2007, the IDHS has been conducting various projects aimed at poverty reduction and sustainable development in developing countries, leveraging its multidisciplinary research and educational capacities in international studies and women's studies. Recently, the institute has been collaborating and conducting research with various stakeholders including government bodies, civil society, academia, and international organizations to expand Korea's global health official development assistance (ODA). Notably, from 2019 to 2022, the institute carried out the 'Korean Global Health Strategy' research funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and hosted various conferences as a platform for discussing international health issues focused on public health and girls’ health in developing countries. And since 2023, the institute has been implementing KOICA’s global training programs.
