Ewha Department of Keyboard Instruments Alumni Kim Eun-su and Lee Da-eun Won First Place at the International Organ Comp

Graduates from the Ewha Womans University Department of Keyboard Instruments have been showing their competence on the international stage, constantly winning first place in prestigious competitions.

Last March, Kim Eun-su (graduated in 2022) won first place at the International Organ Competition called “Internationaler Orgelwettbewerb in Korschenbroich” held in Korschenbroich, North Rhine-Westphalia state, Germany. This 14th competition is held biennially, and featured pieces by renowned composers such as Bach, Buxtehude of Germany, and César Franck of France.


Kim secured the honorary first place unanimously from four judges after the preliminaries and finals held from March 4th (Monday) to March 10th (Sunday). Kim expressed her gratitude, saying, "It is truly an honor to receive such a significant award shortly after I came here to study abroad. I will continue to strive to be an organist based on what I learned at Ewha."


Kim graduated from Ewha's College of Music under the guidance of Professor Joo Ye-heun and entered the Freiburg University of Music in Germany in 2022, where she is currently pursuing a master's degree (Master Orgel). She previously tied for second place at the “Maria-Hofer-Competition 2023” held in Austria.

Last February, Lee Da-eun (graduated in 2018) won first place at the “Miami International Organ Competition” in Miami, Florida state, USA.


This 10th competition is held once in three years, sponsored by Italy’s Padua and the famous organ builder Fratelli Ruffatti (The Church of the Epiphany, Miami) to encourage and commend talented young organists worldwide. The final stage, held on February 9th (Friday),  was globally broadcasted live on YouTube.


Lee shared her gratitude, saying, "One of the pieces I played in the final stage was the one I studied at Ewha. I am thankful for the education I received at Ewha, which opened the path for me as a musician. I will continue to grow as a better musician."


Lee graduated from Ewha’s College of Music under the guidance of Professor Park So-hyun, then entered the Hamburg University of Music in Germany in 2020. She earned her master's degree (Master Orgel) and is currently studying in the Konzertexamen program at Hamburg University of Music.
