Ewha Journalists Club Holds 2024 Annual General Meeting and Ewha Journalist Award Ceremony

Ewha Journalists Club, a group of Ewha Womans University alumnae working in journalism, held its "2024 Annual General Meeting and 24th Ewha Journalist Award Ceremony" on May 21 (Tuesday) at ECC Lee Sam-bong Hall. The MC for the event was JTBC announcer Song Min-kyo (English Language and Literature, Class of '06) and began with a welcoming speech by Ewha Journalists Club President Kim Sun-hee (English Education, Class of '93, YTN).
Ewha Journalists Club started in 1997, marking its 26th year, and serves as a network for alumnae in the fields of newspapers, broadcasting, and magazines. The event was attended by about 100 people, including Ewha Haktang Foundation Chairperson Chang Myong-sue, President Kim Eun-mi, Vice President for Academic Affairs Kim Jung-sun, Vice President for External Affairs Shin Kyung-sik, Medical Center Director Yoo Kyung-ha, Dean of Student Affairs Baek Eun-mi, Director of External Affairs and Development Park Min-jung, Director of Communications Office Bang Se-hoon, and faculty from the School of Communication and Media. They gathered to celebrate the Ewha Journalist Award recipients and to encourage the members.
Since 2001, Ewha Journalists Club has annually selected and awarded alumnae who have made outstanding contributions in journalism. This year's 24th Ewha Journalist Award recipients were Kim Ji-su, CEO of Minds Connector (Sociology, Class of '94), Kim Bit-na, PD of MBC Radio Team 2 (Political Science and International Relations, Class of '00), and Park Shin-young, New York correspondent for the Korea Economic Daily (Korean Language and Literature, Class of '04). CEO Kim Ji-su said, "My dream of becoming a journalist began at Ewha when I was 20 years old, and thanks to my senior and colleagues, I have come a long way." PD Kim Bit-na expressed her gratitude by saying, "I want to be a senior journalist who can also empower younger journalists." Correspondent Park Shin-young spoke via video from New York, noted, "There are still many female journalists who are striving to break prejudices and receive better recognitions," and pledged to be a journalist who can honor the name of Ewha.
President Kim Eun-mi, in congratulatory remarks, shared recent Ewha news and encouraged Ewha journalists who are working at the forefront of media and sensitively responding to societal changes. Chairperson Chang Myong-sue, the previous president and the first female chief editor of Hankook Ilbo, offered a toast to support and encourage the younger journalists.
