Park Hyun-jin, a Ph.D. student (System Health & Engineering major, supervised by Professor Park Hye-sook) at Ewha Womans University College of Medicine (Dean: Ha Eun-hui), received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award at the 49th Annual Conference of Health Sciences.

Her research was based on data from the Ewha Birth Cohort Study, utilized metabolic information from infancy to adolescence period, and applied a Hierarchical Bayesian Kernel Machine Regression model to assess the correlations with inflammatory markers during the adolescence period. The results indicated that metabolic profiles between the ages of 13 and 15, particularly body mass index (BMI) after the teenage period, are closely related to the inflammatory markers during adolescence.

Park Hyun-jin, the BK21 System Health & Engineering student, said, "I feel it meaningful to have established the fundamental basis regarding critical periods that affect inflammatory levels during adolescence through a life-span approach." She further expressed appreciation for the efforts of Professor Park Hye-sook, Lee Hye-ah, and other research team members from the Clinical Trials Center at Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital.

This KPHA (Korea Public Health Association) Annual Conference is the most prestigious academic conference of the healthcare sector in Korea. Under the theme "Better Health for All" and the sub-theme "Quality, Efficiency, and Equity of Health System for All", the conference featured 10 special sessions, student research competitions, poster presentations, and award ceremonies.
