Ewha laid the foundation for higher education for Korean women by launching college courses in 1910. Going further, Ms. Alice Appenzeller reorganized the college and preparatory departments into independent entities, and in 1925, founded Ewha College for Women—the only higher institution for women in Korea at the time. Ewha College offered majors in Liberal Arts, Music, and Home Economics, and provided a balanced curriculum in the humanities, arts, and sciences. Through specialized education, it took the lead in nurturing women of talent who would go on to serve the nation.
