Ewha Shares Gratitude and Joy with 2023 Ewha Family Christmas Service

Ewha held the 2023 Ewha Family Christmas Service at Welch-Ryang Auditorium at 3 p.m. on December 7, 2023 (Thu.) to share the joy of Christmas with Ewha members. The Ewha Family Christmas Service, co-hosted by the Chaplain’s Office and the Ewha Alumnae Association, is held on the first Thursday of December every year, where Ewha students, current and retired faculty members and staff, and alumnae gather together to celebrate the meaning of Christmas in advance. This year’s Christmas service was attended by around 2,000 participants, including students, faculty, staff, and alumnae, as well as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Ewha Womans University Chang Myong-Sue, President Eun Mee Kim of Ewha Womans University, President Lee Myeong-kyeong of the Ewha Alumnae Association, and University Chaplain Sunhee Ahn, with the aim to ruminate together upon the meaning of Jesus’s birth while enjoying various performances. The Ewha Alumnae Association will deliver the donations raised through the service to Ewha graduate missionaries around the globe in countries including Cambodia, Bangladesh, and South Africa.

The service opened with the Ewha Christmas Prayer, recited by the Ewha faculty, staff, students, and alumnae, followed by a scripture reading by President Lee Myeong-kyeong of the Ewha Alumnae Association, the hymn “O Holy Night” by the Ewha Chorus and a sermon by University Chaplain Sunhee Ahn. The service created a warm and beautiful Christmas atmosphere with special performances to share the joy of Christmas, including a musical piece titled “Sleigh Ride” by the Ewha Orchestra and a carol titled “Noel” by the Ewha Chorus.

Meanwhile, the Ewha Houses of Christmas have been installed and illuminated around the campus to commemorate the birth of Jesus and to share warm-hearted love to everyone who visits Ewha. The Chaplain’s Office held the lighting ceremonies for “The Ewha Houses of Christmas – Nativity Scene” on November 28, 2023 (Tue.). Since its first showing at the ECC in 2018, the Ewha Houses of Christmas have also been installed in dormitories and the College of Medicine Magok Campus. This year, it has been installed in front of Hak-gwan, which reopened in September after remodeling and partial construction, and will remain on display until early January next year to light up the night on the campus.
