The 2023 Ewha-Harvard Summer School Program, co-organized by the Graduate School of International Studies at Ewha Womans University and Harvard University in the U.S, held a closing ceremony on August 18, 2023 (Fri.), following the completion of its eight-week program.

The Ewha-Harvard Summer School Program (EHSSP) is the only summer session program hosted in Korea by Harvard, one of the most prestigious universities in the world, and has been held in Ewha Womans University every summer since 2006. The EHSSP is a popular program among students that offers three credits as a summer session, and upon completion, issues certificates respectively from Harvard Summer School and Ewha’s Graduate School of International Studies. In particular, the resumption of the program after a four-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in high expectations and interest this year.

This year’s program was held under the theme of “North Korea” and participated in by a total of 30 students from Ewha and Harvard University, who experienced a variety of activities such as a lecture titled “Thinking Out of the Black Box – Exploring New Insights into North Korea,” given by Dr. John S. Park, a political science expert at Harvard University, field trips, local survey trips and Korean language classes. The participating students enjoyed an even more in-depth summer session program than in previous years, not only learning together but also living together in on-campus housing during the course of the program as well as building one-on-one language and cultural exchanges.

As the EHSSP boasts a high degree of satisfaction among its participants each year, it has positioned itself as Ewha’s representative global education program. Ewha has taken the initiative in the globalization of Korean universities by establishing the Ewha International Summer College (EISC) in 1971 as the first of its kind in the country, and the first Division of International Studies among Korean universities in 2001. In addition, Ewha operates eminent global programs such as the Ewha-Harvard Summer School Program (EHSSP), the Ewha-Harvard College in Asia Program (HCAP), the Ewha-Yale Conference and the Ewha-Luce International Seminar, based on its longstanding tradition of global education and excellent educational capabilities.
