Ewha and Financial Supervisory Service Hold International Conference and Job Fair

The Ewha Career Development Center and the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) co-hosted “2021 International Conference: Toward the era of F.I.N; Finance, Industry, Nature” at the Lee San-bong Hall of the ECC building on Tuesday, October 26.

The Ewha Career Development Center has held international conferences with the FSS since 2019 to preemptively respond to social changes and chart a future for the coming generations, along with a job fair for the younger generation’s business startups and employment. This year, international organizations under the United Nations, foreign regulators, and financial companies took part in the conference under the theme of “Toward the era of F.I.N; Finance, Industry, Nature.”

The event was held in a contact-free format to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and livestreamed through the Ewha and the FSS YouTube channels. The International Conference commenced at 9 a.m. with opening remarks by Governor Jeong Eun-bo of the Financial Supervisory Service and a welcome speech by President Eun Mee Kim, followed by congratulatory messages by South Korean Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, Chairman Yun Jae-ok of the National Policy Committee, former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Danish Ambassador Einar Jensen, Dutch Ambassador Joanne Doornewaard, Australian Ambassador Catherine Raper, and British Ambassador Simon Smith. Deputy Head of Mission Alexandra Siddall of the Australian embassy, CEO John Rim of Samsung Biologics, Chairman Yoon Jong-kyoo of KB Financial Group, and Country Manager Philippe Van Hoof of ING Korea also graced the event with their presence.

The main event commenced with a keynote speech titled “Building a more sustainable future, together” delivered by Asia-Pacific Director Dr. Daiana Beitler of Microsoft Philanthropies. Subsequently, Country Manager Philippe Van Hoof of ING Korea, Executive Director Christ Faint of the Bank of England, Senior Scientist Alaa Al Khourdajie of IPPC, Senior Economist Hwang Jae-hak of the Financial Supervisory Service, and Chief Public Relations Officer Kim Jin-young of the KB Financial Group Brand & ESG Group gave presentations regarding the effects of climate change as a global issue on the financial industry and possible countermeasures.

The “Green Job Fair” and the “Third AI Challenge Competition” was held at 1 p.m. to help relieve the difficulties that youths face in employment and present a blueprint for the future of finance. In the Third AI Challenge Competition, the KaptureBee team consisting of students Lee Ha-young and Jang Yi-je from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Ewha Womans University proposed a real-time detection service for messenger-based phishing using the “KB-ALBERT model” and won the grand prize among the 10 final teams.
