The monthly small-scale donation program Seonbae Ramyeon Scholarship, administered by Ewha Womans University’s Office of University Development and Relations, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The Seonbae Ramyeon Scholarship is the first micro-donation program in a Korean university where donors can choose at least one account to make a monthly donation ranging from the minimum unit of 10,000 won.

Designed to allow any Ewha alumna to help students who need tuition support, the scholarship program was launched in November 2010 and rapidly garnered commitments totaling around 500 million won in just one month. Unlike other existing donation funds, the Seonbae Ramyeon Scholarship helped broaden Ewha’s donor base and expanded the virtuous cycle of the culture of giving, as even new graduates who have only recently embarked on their career paths are able to actively participate in the micro-donation drive.

Founded upon the love and devotion of the Ewha community, the program has raised a total of 2,964.75 million won with the participation of 4,567 people over the past 10 years. It has grown into Ewha’s representative scholarship program and helped 3,130 Seonbae Ramyeon Scholarship recipients. More than 200 sponsors are now in their 10th year of sponsoring the program, and in particular, 77 former scholarship recipients are now sponsors themselves, continuing the virtuous cycle of giving.

Expressing her gratitude, Director Choi Yoomi of the Office of University Relations and Development remarked, “Thanks to our alumnae’s love for Ewha and its students, the Seonbae Ramyeon Scholarship was able to celebrate its 10th anniversary as the first and longest-running small sum of donation program for a Korean university.” She added, “Like ramyeon that is tastier when made together, I hope that the giving culture of the Seonbae Ramyeon Scholarship will bring the Ewha community together and continue into the future to become a channel for Ewha students to feel the warmth of our alumnae.”
