50th Anniversary Celebration of Department of English Education

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the English Education Department at Ewha (Dean Choi Yeon Hee) hosted a commemorative event on September 25 in the Lee San-bong Hall of the ECC building.

The Department of English Education was established in 1964 as the Department of Foreign Language Education, which offered degrees in English Education and French Education. In 1999, English Education was separated as an independent department and subsequently renamed from the Department of Foreign Language Education into the Department of English Education. Having begun to offer master’s and doctoral degree programs in 1999 and 2001 respectively, the Department of English Education has firmly established its place as a leading institution for English teachers and experts in English education.

20th Anniversary Celebration of Division of Architecture

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Division of Architecture at Ewha (Head: Prof. Lee Tonghoon) hosted a commemorative event on September 25 in the LG Convention Hall.

The Division of Architecture was established in 1994 as the Department of Architecture under the College of Natural Sciences, but as Ewha founded the world’s first engineering college for women in 1996, the architecture department was merged into the Engineering College, under which it produced its first 14 graduates in 1998. Since its reorganization in 2006 as the Division of the Architecture, offering degrees in Architecture and Architectural Engineering, the former program has focused on the design aspect of architecture, while the latter has offered education on the engineering aspects including structure, environment and construction management. In the traditionally male-dominated area of the construction industry, Ewha’s Division of Architecture has served as a cradle to foster expertise among female architects, thereby contributing to the elimination of the traditional preconception and displaying the considerable potential and prowess of women architects and engineers.
