Opening Ceremony of Ewha-Solvay Research & Innovation Center, the Global Research Network

The opening ceremony of the Ewha-Solvay Research & Innovation Center, the fruit of Korea’s first university-industry collaboration with a global corporation, was held in front of the University-Industry Cooperation Building on June 3, 2014.
At her congratulatory address, President Kim Sun-Uk said, “Ewha-Solvay collaboration is the first case of a foreign multinational corporation establishing its global Research & Innovation Center at a Korean university, which is considered to be a successful example of industry-academic cooperation.” President Kim asked the audience to pray for the growth and development of Ewha and Solvay, which are working together to achieve the ultimate goal of sustainable development as the symbol of a successful university-industry collaboration in Korea.
Mr. Jean-Pierre Clamadieu, CEO of Solvay, said, “Ewha is an elite school that equips the highest level of professors and students in the field of chemistry and that is a historic place which has made innovative changes. I feel grateful to open this Ewha-Solvay R&I Center with Ewha today.”
Following the opening ceremony, there was a tour, which allowed attendees to look around the cutting edge research facility and experiment equipment at the R&I Center. The size of the Ewha-Solvay R&I Center is 6,600 ㎡, making it the fourth biggest Solvay research center in Asia. Ewha and Solvay are developing a range of university-industry collaboration efforts at the center and are committed to expanding and developing their partnership in the future.
