The “2013 Summer Ewha Volunteer Team” announced their dedicated summer volunteer activities during an opening ceremony held at the Student Union Building on Friday, June 28th.

The Ewha Volunteer Team pledged to take a leading role in creating a more harmonious society in which humans help one another, as well as to become role models through dutiful and consistent volunteer efforts. This summer, the national volunteer team will take part in community service activities related to education and architecture, while the international volunteer team will actively serve in education and health care related activities in Cambodia.

Ninety-nine members of the national volunteer team are planning to go to Kangwondo, Kyungsangdo, Junlado, and other farming areas around Korea to help educate disadvantaged children and adolescents from Tuesday, July 30th to Saturday, August 10th.

The architecture volunteer team will participate in the program launched by Korea Habitat, ‘Building Homes for Hope’, for 4 nights and 5 days, beginning on Tuesday, July 23rd and Monday, July 29th, respectively. ‘Building Homes for Hope’ is an architectural organization that aims to bring an end to homelessness. Through this program, students will serve 12 families on 3 blocks throughout the Chuncheon area and 8 families in 2 blocks throughout the Jinju area.

The international volunteer team will spend 2 weeks in Phnom Phen, Cambodia. Twenty-one students and volunteers will take part in a variety of cultural exchange, education, and volunteer programs with Professor Jeong Hye-Jung (Sociology) between Sunday, July 7th and Friday, July 19th.

Twenty-three members of the international medical service team (made up of 5 students, 5 medical students, 2 professors, and 11 medical center workers) will work on public service of medical care as well as assist with a business to improve medical services throughout the Kanpong Speu region in Cambodia from Tuesday, July 23rd to Tuesday, July 30th.

The Ewha Volunteer Team, which began in the summer of 2000, has 72 members. It has held its annual summer and winter ceremonies with its enrolled student body volunteers and has worked actively in educational, medical, and architectural public service both nationally and internationally.
