Ewha held a farewell ceremony of ‘2012 Ewha-KOICA Master’s Program in International Studies’, which produced its 6th class of graduates consisting of 28 students. The ceremony was held in the LG convention hall of the International Education building on Wednesday, June 12th.

‘Ewha-KOICA Master’s Program’ is a 4 semester program within the Graduate School of International Studies providing female government officials and researchers from developing countries with top quality education for free as a collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). Since it began in 2007, it has produced 177 graduates from 39 countries as an internationally renowned program training students in the field of development studies. 28 students from 21 countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Iraq, Mongolia, and Honduras received the certificate for completing the 16-month- curriculum they began last February.

President Kim encouraged the graduates, offering her congratulations “on your graduation to all of you who completed ‘2012 Ewha-KOICA Master’s Program’ successfully adapting to new environment in unfamiliar foreign country”. She added that “I expect you to contribute to the development of your own countries by engaging in various policies and programs as female experts in the field of women and development.”

Ewha launched this program to produce women leaders in developing countries, especially contributing to improving women’s rights. Students can gain a firm foundation in the field of women and development through intensive education with practical activities such as conferences, workshops, and field trips. After finishing this program, graduates return to their own countries and contribute to developing their countries and elevating women’s rights in various fields as women leaders such as professors, NGO officers, and public officials.

Women leaders from the ‘2012 Ewha-KOICA Master’s Program’ are expected to make great contributions in various fields. Indeed, Ms. CHEMJONG, Gomadevi from Nepal has been promoted to the position of chief in Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority(CIAA) thanks to ‘Ewha-KOICA program’ and Ms. SHOBNOM, Sheren from Bangladesh has been employed as an officer at the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP), one of the UN-affiliated organizations.
