Ewha Woman’s University Celebrates its 127th Anniversary with a Variety of Events

Ewha Woman’s University held its ‘127th Anniversary Celebration’ at the main auditorium at 10 A.M. on Friday, May 31st. In addition to the event, around 100 events to celebrate Ewha’s 127th anniversary were held all around the campus during the month of May.
On Friday, the 31st of May, which is Ewha’s foundation day, its ‘127th Anniversary Celebration’ was held at 10 in the morning. President Kim Sun-Uk, faculty members from all areas of Ewha, and esteemed guests participated in the celebration. Furthermore, the awarding of the 9th ‘Ewha Scholarly Award’ and the 15th ‘Congratulatory Ewhaian Award’, and the commendation of school faculty that have been at Ewha for 10, 20, and 30 years respectively took place during the celebration. Honorary President Yun Hu-Jeong (Department of Law, ’55 Graduate), Vice Chairman of the Ewha International Consotrium Jang Hwa-In (Educational Psychology, ’69 Graduate), and Chairman of the Hyundai Group Hyeon Jeong-Eun (Sociology, ’76 Graduate) were awarded the 15th ‘Congratulatory Ewhaian Award.’ Alongside there was Professor Nam Gyeong-Hui (Philosophy) who was recognized for her continuous studies on the comparison, analysis, and interaction among Ancient Western Philosophy, Social Philosophy, Analytical Philosophy, Moral Philosophy, Eastern Philosophy, and Western Philosophy was awarded the 9th ‘Ewha Scholarly Award.’
On Tuesday, the 14th of May, the final games of the ‘Ewhain’s Get Together Soccer Tournament’ were held. The “Ewhain Get Together Soccer Tournament,’ which was first held in 1995 at the 50th anniversary of the College of Physical Education, is now being held annually by the student council of the Department of Physical Science. This year’s tournament started on Thursday, the 25th of April and 13 teams summing up to 210 participants in total enjoyed the tournament. Team ‘Real Social’ from the College of Social Science took home the championship cup.
From Wednesday, May 22nd until Friday, May 24th, the ‘127th Anniversary Festival’ hosted by Ewha’s student body took place all around campus. Traditional events like the ‘Ewhaian Eat Together’ which made a bibimbap for 250 Ewha students, ‘Yeongsan tug-a-rope,’ and even a talent show for Ewha students, ‘Ewha’s Got Talent’ were held and grabbed attention.
During the festival, around 150 booths were opened to sell a variety of food and drinks plus self designed souvenirs. Furthermore, all around campus a range of different performances and exhibition games took place, including the performance of Ewha dance team, ‘HEAL.’.
Kim Da-Hui (Department of English Literature, ’12) who participated in the festival remarked, "This year’s festival is my second one here at Ewha, and I think many of the booths were intriguing which made it even more fun."
Furthermore, from Monday, May 27th to Saturday, June 1st, the ‘Mayday Student Exhibition’ and ‘College of Textiles and Fashion Exhibition’ were held. Also, from May 27th~30th (Monday ~ Thursday), ‘the celebration hosted by Ewha Central Library, ‘Meeting Jane Austen at the Library’ was held which was to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the publishing of 'Pride and Prejudice

From May 29th~20th(Wednesday ~ Thursday), the ‘127th Anniversary Commemorate Swimming Tournament’ hosted by the College of Health Science and Department of Physical Science was held.
