On Friday, April 5, Ewha and the University of California, Irvine signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate in research and student and faculty exchange.

Through the agreement, Ewha President Kim Sun-Uk and UC Irvine President Michael V. Drake discussed the plan to exchange professors and students annually. This new MOU increased the number of institutions with which Ewha has agreements to  872 institutions in 68 countries.

"Entering an agreement with a college from the University of California system is a significant addition to Ewha’s international realm", said President Kim. She added that "Ewha looks forward to the company of UC Irvine on its way to becoming not only the best university in Korea but also the global hub for women’s education".

"The campus tour revealed the beautiful campus of Ewha and its most impressive ECC building", said  UC Irvine President Drake. He also mentioned that "UC Irvine is not only working on socioecology, life science, domestic science, information and communication & computer science, but is also progressing in research on  school systems. I look forward to cooperating with Ewha across a number of fields".

UC Irvine was established in 1965 as one of 10 colleges of the state-funded University of California system. Last year UC Irvine was ranked 45th in the global ranking of universities. International exchange is coordinated on a central level at the University of California; because of this, the institution-wide MOU with Ewha is unprecedented.
