On Thursday, September 6th, a delegation from the People's Republic of China’s National Women’s Association visited Ewha Womans University. The Association promotes women's rights and gender equality from all parts of China and was founded by the nation’s Communist Party in 1949.

The National Women’s Association aims to strengthen exchange and cooperation with universities and institutions abroad. To mark the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and PRC, a women's forum was held centering on Chinese women’s education, fostering women’s competencies, culture, and academic and research exchange.

Prof. Eunice Kim, Vice President for Global Affairs at Ewha, welcomed the delegation, stressing that “the 21st century will be the era of partnership for China and South Korea” and that together they would be able to make great contributions to women’s education in Asia, as Ewha has endeavored to do throughout its 126 year history. Through exchange and cooperation, said Prof. Kim, the university hopes to provide more education opportunities for women in China.

Long a pioneer in the development of Women's Studies and the feminist network in Asia, Ewha is now expanding its influence to Southeast Asia and Africa through the Ewha Global Empowerment Program (EGEP) designed to train women working in non-governmental institutions and the public sector. Women from developing countries also come to Ewha through the International Summer College, semester and year-long exchange, and degree-seeking programs.

Ewha currently has 117 active exchanges with Chinese universities and institutions, and as of September 2012 there are 63 international students from China studying at Ewha as exchange students. The visit from the delegation from the National Women’s Association is likely to further strengthen the relationship between Ewha and People's Republic of China.
