Ewha Spreads Knowledge via YouTube EDU Service
Ewha Womans University ( http://www.youtube.com/ewhauniv ) has launched a brand site as part of YouTube’s EDU service to make the university’s lectures available around the world and accessible from tablets, smartphones, PCs, and mobile devices.
YouTube EDU is an educational page in the Google video uploading site designed to allow users to discover, create, and share educational videos. Educational and instructional videos are some of the most popular videos on YouTube. Already, some of the world’s leading universities, including Harvard, MIT, and Stanford, as well as global thought leaders such as TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design), are actively making content available using this service. In total, more than 750 partners provide educational content to YouTube EDU.
YouTube EDU is now planning to launch a South Korean channel and begin cooperation with universities in the country, including Ewha Womans University. The university is eager to make its lectures open to the world in order to share knowledge as the global hub of women’s education and deliver the tools to promote social responsibility at local, national, and international levels.
This year, Ewha will digitalize all educational materials in order to collect, manage, and disseminate to the rest of the world with the goal of enhancing professors’ teaching abilities and efficiently sharing knowledge and educational resources. As a first step, Ewha has opened the Ewha brand site within the YouTube EDU site, through which it will provide seven courses from its Global Online Campus (GOC), ten lectures from the Distinguished Fellows of Ewha Academy for Advanced Studies, and eight special lectures from renowned visitors and invited guests. In total, Ewha will provide more than 33 videos covering education topics, university information, and instructional manuals for the cyber-campus. At a later stage, Ewha will select additional courses and special lectures that communicate Ewha’s unique strengths and best serve international users.
Ewha Womans University began to offer online courses from 1997 and has been providing intellectual content through the Global Online Campus (GOC) since March 2010. Through the GOS, students of Ewha and its 700+ partner universities can take online courses, earning credit toward their degrees.
