Ewha Broadcasts the First Video-lecture Abroad
Ewha has newly opened a global video-lecture class this summer. The initiating special lectures of this class were on the subject of ‘Globalization & South Korean Chaebol’ held on July 12 followed by the lecture on 'Korean Traditional Music' on July 19th.
20 Ewha students and 20 Harvard students participated in the classroom at Ewha Campus Complex. At the same time, the students from Chulalongkorn University in Taiwan and the students from University of Hong Kong in Hong Kong attended the same class through the internet connected camera system. Thanks to the information technology applied for the video-lecture, four groups of students from different countries from all over the world were able to participate in a class.
The students in the class had the time for questions and answers, and for debate and discussions across the national boundaries. The students from Harvard who attended the class at Ewha consist of the students who are currently participating in the Ewha-Harvard Summer School Program.
The video-lecture class was a part of Ewha-KF Global e-school which is an on-line Korean studies broadcasting service that broadcasts prestigious lectures with major universities in Asia, Oceania, and Eastern Europe. The purpose of this project is to popularize 'Korea' as the subject of education and research.
Two other classes, 'International Development Cooperation' and 'Understanding World Heritage in Korea' will open in the fall semester of 2011. The Korean studies class is preparing off-line work-shops and seminars with the Chulalongkorn University and the University of Hong Kong as well.
It has been ten years since Ewha first held real time video lectures with the fall semester class with POSTEC. On the basis of the accumulated know-how, Ewha has run many classes. Ewha will be running more lectures with universities abroad, exchanging and sharing valuable experiences through the video-lectures.
