College of Engineering Receives the ABEEK Accreditation

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Science & Engineering, Food Science & Engineering of Ewha College of Engineering received the ABEEK(Accreditation Board of Engineering Education in Korea) accreditation.

The ABEEK accreditation is an engineering education quality assurance system, which guarantees the graduates of the ABEEK programs have acquired expertise and abilities conforming to global standards and needed for entry to the practice of engineering.

In 2007, Korea became a signatory of the Washington Accord, and thus Korean graduates of the ABEEK programs are now qualified to take the engineer examinations of advanced countries such as the US, UK, Australia and Canada. They are also considered to have met the academic requirements equivalent to local college graduates when seeking employment in other signatory countries. Therefore, Ewha graduates of College of Engineering will be recognized as having met the academic requirements for entry to the practice of engineering.

Ewha has prepared for ABEEK program accreditation since 2005 and started ABEEK program in 2006 so that students can benefit from it. As a result, Ewha College of Engineering acquired ABEEK in 2010 following 2008.

"This accreditation is valid for two years. We plan to strive to improve our programs for fostering women engineers and establish performance-oriented education courses based on the demands of the society, corporations, and students", Professor Lee Sang-ho, the executive director of the Engineering Education Innovation Center said.
