The Unveiling Ceremony of the 'Art Wall' Held at the Main Gate

The new 'art wall' exposed itself at the unveiling ceremony at the Main Gate on April 5.

The motif of the 'art wall' is the actual pear blossom that bloomed in front of the Welch-Ryang Auditorium last year. The pear blossom is the symbol of Ewha Womans University for "Ewha" means "Pear Blossoms." It was King Kojong who gave the school its name in 1887. Many historians speculate that a grove of pear trees near the campus site inspired the name.

Yoon Hoo-Jung, the chairperson of Ewha Hakdang participated in the unveiling ceremony. She said at the ceremony, "I hope the spirit and the tradition of Ewha will be transmitted through the art wall filled with pear blossoms that symbolize Ewha."

Kang Suk-Young the professor who designed and produced the 'art wall' said, "It has been a year since I started working on the pear blossoms in white porcelain. The outcome is more meaningful because students in doctoral and graduate program in the department of ceramic arts participated altogether."

100 VIPs and students including the chairperson, the president of Ewha Womans University, and the president of Ewha Alumni Association participated at the ceremony.
