The 2009 Commencement Held
The 2009 commencement was held at Welch-Ryang Auditorium, on February 22th (Monday 2:00 PM). Ewha has conferred 3,751 degrees including 2,641 bachelor‘s, 1,009 master’s, and 101 doctoral degree.
President Bae-Yong Lee said in her speech during the ceremony, "We hope that you will practice what you have learned from Ewha, the leadership, intelligence, and the passion to realize peace of humankind. You should become the pioneer like Ms. Scranton, the founder of Ewha, to enlighten the world with a challenging spirit."
The graduate with top honors this year is Hwang Ji Young from the College of Engineering(06, Computer Information Technology). She has scored 4.3 perfect GPA, which is for the first time in 15 years at Ewha. Hwang achieved A+ in all classes. She said, "I didn't try to get perfect scores. I just wanted to study my major because I found it attractive." She has dreamed of becoming an engineer since she was young. She added, "I'd like to contribute to the development of computer technology since the role of computer has become comprehensive."
In addition, nine students from the EGPP(Ewah Global Partnership Program) graduated. Some of them will work at major Korean companies and organizations such as Samsung, CJ, and the Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Other students will continue their studies at graduate schools. Than Cam, one of the EGPP graduates said, "Korea has given me the opportunity to study with full scholarship. I was able to learn a lot because I had to study English and Korean in a short period of time and compete with diligent Ewha students. I'd like to become a person who can contribute to both Korea and Vietnam."
