Dr. Muhammad Yunus of Bangladesh, who is the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize laureate and the founder of Grameen Bank, held various academic and education sessions at Ewha from June 18 to 19.

In the discussion session with Ewha students on June 18, he had a very in-depth talk about world peace and poverty at graduate school building. He said, "We must not give up until we eradicate poverty. If we really care about our future and well-being of our descendents, we must do our best to preserve the world as it is to the next generation."

When a student asked why it is so hard to fight global poverty he said, "People are not the cause of poverty. It is the result from the system of the society. What we can do to end global poverty is to work hard and find something that will contribute to the society."

He gave a keynote speech at the conference on 'Conflict Resolution and Social Integration' which was hosted by Center for Peace Studies and KPSA(Korean Political Science Association) on June 19 at LG Convention Hall. Dr. Yunus, the one who coined the concept of microloan, have contributed for many people to overcome poverty and to have hope for better tomorrow. He addressed all these processes with his bank to the conference audience.

The visit of Dr. Yunus is part of the WCU(World Class University) project which is a project run by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology to nurture universities into internationally competitive schools.
